Our Story

A Hundred Years of the Same Simmering Pot

In the lanes of Chowk, some things do not change — and Raheem's nihari is one of them. Roughly a century old and profiled by the Indian Express among Lucknow's great food institutions, our kitchen still follows the founding family's method: meat simmered overnight on a slow flame, spices measured by hand, never by habit.

The kulchas arrive hot from the tandoor all day, made to soak up the rich, glossy gravy. Food writers, tourists and three generations of Chowk families sit at the same simple tables. There is no shortcut here, and that is precisely the point.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you visit or order from Raheem's.

What is Raheem's Kulcha Nahari famous for?

+

Our nihari — slow-simmered overnight using a recipe roughly a hundred years old — served with hot tandoor kulchas. It is widely counted among the best kulcha nihari in Chowk, Lucknow, and has been featured by the Indian Express as a city food institution.

What time does Raheem's open?

+

We open early, around 7:00 AM, because nihari is traditionally a breakfast dish in old Lucknow — and we serve until 11:00 PM. The morning degh is the freshest; many regulars arrive before nine for the first serving of the day.

Do you serve anything besides nihari?

+

Yes. Along with our famous nihari and kulcha, the kitchen serves mutton korma, sheermal and tandoori rotis. The menu is intentionally short — a century of practice has taught us that doing a few things perfectly beats doing everything adequately.

Can I get Raheem's nihari packed for home?

+

Absolutely. Nihari travels well and we pack it carefully in sealed containers, with kulchas wrapped separately. Call or WhatsApp your order and pick it up hot. For family gatherings and dawats in Lucknow, we also prepare larger degh quantities on advance notice.
